Selecting the best white acrylic for your project

White acrylic is manufactured in a number of degrees of translucency. Selecting the correct white acrylic product is essential to creating the desired effect for any project. The degree of desired light transmission when choosing a white acrylic determines which product will be suitable. Distance between the light source in backlit applications is critical to avoid bright and dark areas. Standard cast acrylics have been available for over 70 years. More recently, and with the advent of LED illumination, an extruded acrylic formulation was developed to enhance light distribution and diffusion. Harbor now offers Optix LD acrylics for internal illumination projects.

Optix-LD Max 2406
Optix-LD max 2406 white acrylic was developed to allow maximum light transmission while still having a translucent white “haze” appearance. With 64% Light Transmission, 2406 white is an excellent choice for bright illumination of translucent graphics using either translucent films or printed graphics on WHITE translucent digital media. The 64% light transmission allows for brighter graphics when using the correct internal light source. The color selection of the internal light source (Fluorescent lamps or LEDs) will determine the color appearance when internally illuminated. Cool White or Daylite Fluorescent lamps are most desirable and LEDs with a 5000 to 7000 kelvin color designation typically produce the same illumination effect as Cool White and Daylite fluorescent lamps.

Common Applications

  • Excellent choice for bright illumination of translucent graphics using either translucent films or printed graphics on WHITE translucent digital media
  • Optix LD Max-2406 enhances both brightness of graphics and maximum diffusion of light for even illumination

    Optix 3015
Optix 3015 White is the most opaque white acrylic you can get and is an excellent choice for router-cut graphics that will be applied to a surface with adhesives or stud-type fasteners. The opacity will prevent any chance of the mounting method being visible when viewing the first surface.

    Common Applications

  • Excellent for plaques and displays where a white solid surface is desirable.
  • Excellent choice for router-cut graphics that will be applied to a surface with adhesives or stud-type fasteners

    Optix-LD 7328
Optix-LD 7328 white acrylic has been the standard for over 50 years for backlit signage and other applications. 7328 white allows 28% light transmission and is desirable for use with fluorescent illumination and translucent cut-graphics as well as router-cut acrylic graphics. 7328 has a milk-white appearance when viewed in daylight without internal illumination.

  • Desirable for use with fluorescent illumination and translucent cut-graphics as well as router-cut acrylic graphics
  • Optix LD-7328 will give more even diffusion and light distribution than standard cast acrylics and is fast becoming the preferred product for sign and display makers.

    Optix-LD 2447
Optix-LD 2447 white acrylic was developed to produce greater light transmission. 2447 white allows 47% light transmission and is brighter when internally illuminated. While 2447 white allows for more and brighter light transmission, when viewed first-surface without internal illumination the appearance is a dull white to light gray when compared to 7328 white.

  • Great selection for full color translucent applications using either translucent films or printed graphics on CLEAR media
  • Optix LD-2447 will give more even diffusion and light distribution than standard cast acrylics and is fast becoming the preferred product for sign and display makers.
